Willibald and Perkins going to war on waste
German OEM Willibald is a real friend of the earth, with a portfolio of products designed for recycling and processing biological waste. The company teamed up with Perkins on two machines – the Flex-Star 3000 and MS 3000 Minishark – to meet its goals on price, emissions, performance, reliability and a life of low operating costs.
Equipment innovator Willibald is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of recycling and biomass processing technology. The company produces a variety of machines that suit tasks including the composting, mulching and shredding of biological waste.
Willibald first linked up with Perkins distributor BU Power Systems five years ago to support the design and development of reliable power systems for its machines. From day one, the relationship has helped the company meet the performance demands of its customers.
The recycling and biomass processing sector is currently in great shape economically, and Willibald is taking full advantage with the Flex-Star 3000 and MS 3000 Minishark models.

The Flex-Star 3000
The Flex-Star 3000 screens biomass, compost, pre-crushed old wood, bark mulch and wood chips into three fractions in a single operation – and then discharges each one separately.
The technology is complex and power-hungry, so it requires a powerful, reliable and efficient powertrain. After close collaboration with BU Power Systems, throughout the planning, engineering and testing of the new machine, Willibald selected two high-performing power solutions.
Customers can choose between a 3.4 litre, 4 cylinder Perkins® 854E-E34TA engine rated at 75 kW (101 hp) or a 4.4 litre, 4 cylinder 1204F-E44TA rated at 110 kW (148 hp). Both units deliver the high performance and robust reliability required by Willibald and meet EU Stage IV/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards.
The Perkins engines, combined with a 200 litre diesel tank, keep fuel consumption low and ensure the machine user can work for long periods of time, without interruption.
MS 3000 Minishark
The new MS 3000 Minishark – the entry level model in Willibald’s mobile, high-speed shredder range – also relies on Perkins engine technology.
During the design of the machine, Willibald’s focus was on achieving the optimum balance of price and performance, combined with low operating costs.
BU Power Systems application engineers worked with the company to achieve those goals and advised that the 1204F-E44TA engine would best suit their needs. The unit delivers 130 kW (174 hp) of power, meets Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emission standards and delivers a lifetime of low costs.
The Minishark processes a wide range of materials, from green waste through compost materials to construction demolition wood and wood packaging – and always convinces on performance and economy.
Both the Flex-Star 3000 and MS 3000 Minishark are road legal and capable of 80 km/h.
