Emissions
We’re passionate about complying with standards across the world and supplying the right products to our customers wherever you are. Our enduring experience means we already have the technology developed to sell into countries as they scale the standards. And our unparalleled product development and production processes put us in a prime position to lead the way on future changes.
Changing emission standards through the years have given us a platform to develop innovative new products and build the sort of robust production processes that put us in the perfect position to meet the demands of the future.
We supply engines into many different countries with differing emission standards. The EU and U.S. EPA are closely aligned and set the most stringent standards, with other countries aiming to catch up over the coming years.

Preparing for EU Stage V
EU Stage IV/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final are the latest emissions standards in force and we have developed our engines to meet them. But what does the future hold? When will EU Stage V come into force, what will it require and is there a similar move to develop a U.S. EPA Tier 5?
We’re looking at proposals for future standards in order to help you implement the requirements into your machines when they arrive.

On track for EU Stage V
The next stage of EU emission standards comes into force in 2019 and 2020 for non-road diesel engines across the power spectrum. Machines for construction, agriculture, materials handling, industrial use and generators will all be in scope of these new standards.
The standards will continue the path towards reduction of particulate and NOx emissions. The main difference with Stage V is that for the first time there will be a limit on the number of particulates. In practice, this will drive the adoption of diesel particulate filters (DPFs) for engines in this power range.

Brazil MAR-1
Brazil leads South America in regulating emissions from off-road diesel engines with its Brazil MAR-1 Nonroad emissions standards. The standards apply to engines rated from 19 kW (25 hp) to over 75 kW (100 hp), and is being phased in from January 1, 2015, until January 1, 2019. Perkins engines are designed to meet MAR-1 standards. Our engineers are ready to help you develop machines that make the most of these new engines.
