Take a look back...
For the fifth consecutive year, Perkins participated in South America’s biggest agriculture event and showcased a variety of ag-friendly engines. So what’s that got to do with the day’s first meal?
If it weren’t for Brazil, your breakfast would probably look a lot different. As the world’s largest producer of orange juice, coffee and sugar (and second largest producer of soybeans), agriculture is BIG business for the sunny South-American country. That’s why each year in the spring, agribusiness’ biggest and best come together for Agrishow -- South America’s largest agriculturally-focused event.

With new off-highway emissions standards now in effect throughout Brazil, Perkins is pleased to showcase a variety of MAR-1 compliant engines at Agrishow 2019 in Ribeirão Preto - SP, Brazil April 29 - May 3, 2019.
Representing a wide range of engines manufactured in southern Brazil at Perkins’ plant in Curitiba, the engines on display are part of an array of dependable, locally-built engines that deliver best-in-class solutions for Brazilian and Latin American customers and have been designed to meet the latest Brazil MAR-1 emissions standards. Used in a broad range of agricultural, industrial and electric power applications including generator sets, tractors, forklifts, backhoe loaders, mini-excavators and more, Perkins engines can be built to fit an assortment of agribusiness machines, whatever the global emission standard.
“Perkins is continually investing in new technologies to help OEMs meet emissions challenges like MAR-1. Agrishow 2019 is the prime platform not only to share our history of emissions expertise, but also to reinforce our pledge to agribusiness and engage with Brazilian and Latin American OEMs and end-users and help them overcome any MAR-1 challenges they may be facing,” Ron Schultz – Americas sales director said. “Perkins is perfectly poised to help lead our customers on a path toward success.”

Committed to customers
With a change in the emission standards for agribusiness machines below 100 hp, much of the industry is making necessary updates to meet these standards. Fortunately, Perkins has nearly nine decades of experience collaborating with more than 800 OEMs across the world to help create engines that meet the latest emission standards.
“We’re dedicated to our customers’ success,” Vanda Camargo – South America engines sales manager said. “As a global engine supplier, Perkins is incredibly familiar with the most demanding emissions standards and knows what it takes to create a world-class engine to keep our customers’ machines running.”
To reinforce its commitment to customers, Perkins will soon be opening a Regional Logistics Centre (RLC) in Curitiba, Brazil, stocking more than 3,000 genuine Perkins parts and providing next-day or two-day delivery to most of the region.
“The Curitiba RLC will forever change the way Perkins South America customers do business,” said Matt O’Sullivan – global aftermarket director. “With quick shipping options and the RLC in close proximity to Perkins world-class engine manufacturing facility, machine operators can be up and running in a matter of days, not weeks—meaning less downtime and more return on investment.”
The Curitiba RLC will offer new products including service kits, overhaul kits and an expanded range of replacement engines available from stock. Its co-location with Perkins Curitiba engine manufacturing facility provides access to an experienced Perkins team with skills and local market knowledge to continue the high levels of Perkins dedicated service, training and support in the region.
Perkins Brazilian distributor, MD Power of Sao Paulo (www.mdpower.com.br), has been involved in the planning for the new Curitiba RLC and is positioned to utilise the new capabilities to enhance its service to regional customers.
Longevity and low life cycle costs
The Curitiba RLC shows Perkins is making a major investment to support customers with Perkins-powered machines by providing prompt access to genuine parts and service, helping to reduce downtime and overall cost of ownership.
‘Perkins is committed to delivering the right products at the right price no matter how old or new their engine might be,” Matt continued. “No matter the machine a Perkins engine is powering, only genuine parts will guarantee the dependability that’s expected.”
A working engine endures a massive amount of stress. Use of non-genuine parts can lead to rapid wear, poor performance, poor reliability, higher oil and fuel consumption and, in extreme cases, component damage or engine failure. Designed using a reverse engineering process, non-genuine parts create a copy of a stripped-out original component—ultimately compromising the quality and increasing the risk that the parts will not fit or perform correctly.
Only Perkins genuine parts are designed for Perkins engines and together, they are the ideal match for South and Central American customers who have depended on Perkins for years.
