Commitment to the community
Our place in the community
There are two main strands to our corporate social responsibility (CSR). As a responsible manufacturing company, we take a close interest in environmental projects in the communities where we’re based. And, as an engine company with an eye to the future, we’re keen to support educational initiatives, particularly in the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths.
Most of the projects we support are focused on the local communities around our various facilities across the world.
They demonstrate our commitment to our employees by backing projects, activities and opportunities that are important to them. And they make a very real difference in the communities where we are based, changing lives for a lot of local people.
Our focus on education and the environment doesn’t mean we don’t provide help in other areas – we’ve raised money for heart operations for children in China, helped with a scheme to encourage art activities in children’s hospitals in Brazil, and supported a hospice in Stafford, UK, for instance.
Education
We try to focus our contributions where we feel we can do the most good.
As one of the world’s leading engineering companies, we have an important contribution to make to education in the communities around us.
Several of our facilities support local schools and colleges with books, stationery and other supplies for the classroom, and occasionally we’re able to help by supporting mock job interviews or by employees volunteering to sit on the board of governors. But it’s only natural that we should particularly support the STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths.
We can do that by visiting schools and colleges to talk about engineering, manufacturing and the work that we do.
We support clubs and societies in and out of school that feed the enthusiasm of young people for STEM subjects.
We can help to show them what rewarding and challenging careers they can find in engineering.
We’re proud to be able to offer opportunities to students and graduates in these and related subjects to come and see what life is like in a modern manufacturing company.
Through our apprenticeships and graduate trainee schemes, we can set them on the path to a lifetime of achievement.
It’s a commitment not just to today’s communities, but to the engineers of the future.
“Our CSR contributions are an important part of who we are – a responsible manufacturing company that wants to play a part in protecting the environment and in supporting the communities where our employees work and live.”
Annette Ward, corporate and marketing communications manager
Environment in action
We take our own responsibility to the environment very seriously. We do everything we can to minimise our carbon footprint and see that our manufacturing processes make as little environmental impact as possible.
That’s responsible manufacturing, and it’s very important to us.
But in addition, we want to support local groups who work to protect the environment in which they live. It may be planting trees, protecting wetlands, woodlands or other vulnerable areas, or backing local projects that seek to reduce waste and encourage sustainability.
We’re happy to help. It enhances both the lives of our employees and the towns and cities in which we work – and it’s the right thing to do.
