With the EU Stage V emissions standard just around the corner, Perkins will be at Hillhead 2018 showing its newest range of engines and helping Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) plan a seamless transition to the new standard. Innovations in the aftermarket offering, including the Perkins® SmartCap and Perkins® My Engine App, will also be a major feature of the company’s presence, as will the new Perkins online shop.
Perkins will be making a splash at Hillhead 2018, showcasing the full extended Perkins power range from 6-600 kW, including the new 9-18 litre range plus innovations in engine monitoring and aftermarket care.
This year’s show, featuring the latest advances in quarrying, construction and recycling equipment runs for three days from 26-28 June at Hillhead quarry near Buxton, in the UK.
A major talking point is expected to be the EU Stage V emissions standard, which comes into effect in 2019 and 2020 across the power spectrum. Alongside its line-up of Perkins engines that meet the new standard, a team of Perkins experts will be on hand to help customers plan the transition with their machines.
“Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will be making decisions this year and next to ensure their machines conform to the new standard,” said Sylvia Burwood, Perkins marketing manager for Europe, Africa, Middle East and CIS. “It’s important for Perkins to be at this show to support them, and to help people understand what Stage V means to them and what changes they will see.”
Hillhead 2018
Key event on calendar
The construction sector is one of the most important markets for Perkins, which makes Hillhead a key event in the 2018 European exhibition calendar.
Joining the Perkins engine experts at the show will be specialists in application engineering, product support and aftermarket. A team from Perkins UK distributer DiPerk will also be on the stand to help guide customers and end users through the coming transition to the new emission standard.
“Perkins stands for more than engines,” says Sylvia. “We value the relationships we have with our customers throughout the lifecycle of their machines. We’re here to put our expertise at the disposal of our customers and to work with them to make the transition to Stage V as easy and seamless as possible.”
On display will be the Perkins® Syncro range of 1.7, 2.2, 2.8 and 3.6 litre engines. Tailor-made for compact machines, the Perkins Syncro range is engineered to integrate with customer’s machine design and deliver value and performance. It’s proving a popular choice for the rental market.
World-first telematic device
Perkins is using Hillhead to promote the Perkins SmartCap, the world’s first low-cost engine-level telematic device, which works on both mechanical and electronic engines. It’s now available in the UK and Europe at a recommended retail price of just £39.99.
Installation is simple, said aftermarket marketing manager Siobhan Scott. “You simply replace your engine’s oil filter cap with the correct size Perkins SmartCap,” Siobhan said. “It monitors your engine’s performance and sends data to the free Perkins My Engine App which you install on a mobile device.
“It tells you what engine service you need and when, the parts you need – and even has diagrams to help you through the process – and then registers the service,” said Siobhan. “It’s bringing older engines into the connected era and giving end-users a simple way of keeping their machines in optimal condition.”
New online shop
The Perkins team will also be promoting the new online shop – www.perkins.com/shop – at Hillhead. The shop has thousands of service, maintenance and repair parts available and offers next-day delivery.
For more complex requirements, it has a ‘refer to distributor’ function to put you in touch with your local distributor so you can discuss what you need in more details. “Some parts are more complicated,” said Siobhan. “We want to make sure customers order the correct parts for their specific engine.”
“We’re providing ways for end-users to help themselves but always backing it up with local expert advice from our distributors,” she added.
Visitors to Hillhead will also be able to learn about our Perkins® Platinum Protection extended warranty plan and the benefits of using Perkins® Diesel Engine Oil and genuine Perkins parts.
