Construction: building a solid future
Perkins gives you more at China Nonroad Stage IV
As one of the world’s leading engine suppliers, Perkins can help your business turn the challenge of meeting new China Nonroad Stage IV standards into a golden opportunity.
The next level of Chinese emission standards – China NR IV – is scheduled to come into force sometime between July 2021 and January 2022. The standards will impact a range of construction machines including excavators, wheel loaders and forklift trucks.
As such, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), rental companies and end-users operating in the Chinese market will be required to adopt China NR IV technologies by incorporating a new generation of engine into their machines.
“This will be the first Chinese off-highway emission standards for which aftertreatment will be required and this will be a big change for OEMs,” said Anran Fu, North Asia regional marketing manager.
“But with the right planning and working with an experienced company like Perkins, it will be a smooth process. Perkins has the experience of meeting two previous generations of low emissions technology. We’ve supplied engine and aftertreatment solutions to more than 500,000 off-highway machines, which have accumulated more than 500 million field hours.”

Carefully designed solutions
The new standards will require manufacturers to implement different technologies across the power ranges. There is no single ‘perfect solution’, as the right technology at 50 kW, for example, will be different from the technology required at 150 kW, and different again from the right solution at 250 kW.
“It’s important not to think of this as simply adding technology, like aftertreatment, to an existing China NR III engine,” explained Anran. “The different technologies need to be designed and integrated to work together, to deliver the best solution. Only by taking this approach is it possible to deliver the reliability you need – and Perkins is perfectly positioned to help you achieve this.”
403EA-17™
The 3 cylinder, 1.7 litre engine is simple to install in even the most space-constrained machines and requires no aftertreatment. It produces 26 kW and 106 Nm of torque and is an ideal solution for compact applications.
Perkins® Syncro 3.6L
The 4 cylinder, 3.6 litre engine is the newest addition to our state-of-the-art Perkins® Syncro range and produces 75 kW and up to 430 Nm of torque. It combines low noise levels with the high power density that allows OEMs to downsize engines in compact and mid-size machines.
1204EA-E44TTA™
The 4 cylinder, 4.4 litre engine uses common rail technology and series turbochargers to achieve outstanding power density. It produces 140 kW, 825 Nm of torque and is an ideal solution for manufacturers designing downsized equipment or upgrading existing machines to meet China NR IV.
2406EA-E13TA™
The 6 cylinder, 13 litre engine is based on an all-new platform developed specifically for the Chinese market. It produces 430 kW and 2,634 Nm of torque, making it a powerful choice for mid-sized machinery.
2806EA-E18TA™
The 6 cylinder, 18 litre engine produces 470 kW and 2,953 Nm. It’s designed to meet the productivity needs of OEMs and end users operating very large mining and construction equipment.
“These engines illustrate the breadth of Perkins offering,” said Anran. “They not only meet existing and future emission standards, they deliver very high power density that allows downsizing and provides OEMs with flexibility to fit aftertreatment components.
“What’s more, all our engines are designed to deliver the low fuel consumption, high productivity and proven reliability you and your customers need to succeed.
“Perkins looks forward to helping your business turn the challenge of China NR IV into an exciting opportunity.”
